Folks its time to know about the all new Windows 7 also known as Vienna & Blackcomb. Slated for October 22, 2009 release.
I’m using Windows 7 Release Candidate for quite some time and here i’m sharing some new features introduced in Windows 7.
Let’s check-out the new Windows 7 features
1. Setup:
Windows 7 setup is almost similar to Windows Vista setup. Everything is same except the setup background and the boot screen which is good looking. “Starting Windows” is displayed along with a scrollbar in the middle of boot screen.
Windows mail takes about 25 to 30 min. to install. Nothing will be asked during installation. Just start the installation and forget. After installation few thing are asked like time zone, etc.
2. Windows Explorer:
Windows Explorer has also been modified a little bit. New Command-bar , new left-side pane containing Libraries, Favorites, etc, new Details Pane, a few new options in “View” menu like Content and at last re-sizable Search-bar.
3. Desktop Context Menu:
Desktop context menu is similar to Vista but there are 3 new options:
- Share with
- Display Settings
- Gadgets
4. New Control Panel:
Control Panel window has also been modified. The left sidebar consumes very less space and resizes itself whenever any control panel item is opened in the window. So it saves lot of space.
You can also change to icons view by right-clicking in empty area and selecting the option. And you can also save the view settings which were not possible in Vista.
5. New Taskbar Options:
Now Taskbar and Start Menu Properties have a few new options and have a re-designed interface.
You can change the taskbar location directly from the drop-down box available with Taskbar Location on screen tab.
6. Ribbons in MSPaint and WordPad:
In GUI-based application and software, a ribbon is a form of toolbar, combined with a tab bar. Recent releases of Microsoft Office 2007 have embraced this form with an intricate modular ribbon as their main interface.
7. Improved Firewall:
Windows Firewall has been improved a lot in Windows 7. Now its much more customizable and provides enhanced security.
8. Re-designed Calculator:
Calculator has also been re-designed. It provides 2 new modes: Programmer and Statistics.
9. New Boot Screen
Windows 7 includes a new boot screen showing a progress-bar in the middle.
10. New Options in “Folder Options”:
There are 2 new options in “Folder Options”:
- Hide empty drives in the Computer folder
- Try to search the content of unknown file types
11. New Options in “System Properties”:
System Properties” also provides 2 new options:
- Save taskbar thumbnail previews
- Show shadows under windows
12. Troubleshooting and Monitoring
Resources monitor in windows 7 is very good. If you install new software or other applications that are hogging CPU, Memory or Disk then, you can track it quite easily by just right clicking on particular process and select analyze process.
13. UAC Feature
UAC means User Account Control. UAC launch first time in Windows Vista which limits privileges for applications.
UAC is a security related technology that protects the operating system files and Registry from malicious scripts, malware, viruses, and codes trying to update the protected areas of the computer.
Many companies decided to stay away from Windows Vista because of UAC as you can’t change level of UAC prompts in Vista.
Microsoft gives the UAC solution in windows 7 : -
The slider control allows the administrator of the computer to control which level of UAC prompts, and security, will be implemented. The slider controls which application “types” will required a prompt and which ones will be allowed without a prompt. Windows 7 has four different slider settings.

Windows 7 support most of powerful 64-bit PCS, The new desktop standard
